Its honestly because my brain is exhausted from work and all black is just a no brainer good enough looking outfit.
I stick to the ‘creative uniform’ because it’s practical. It saves me time and money, and I can focus my energy on work rather than deciding what to wear every day.
I’m not an art director but I’m fat.
I’ve eaten all of you. That’s why I wear black.
You know there was an article, and this was years ago, about an art director that decided to make a uniform for themselves. Like she literally wore the same kind of shirt pants and this bolo tie everyday she capsule wardrobes but to the extreme. In the article she said as a creative the time, cost and pressure to “look creative” everyday just wasn’t worth it and by making a uniform for herself she freed up so much time and energy to not worry about how she looked but more on her creative output. I thought it was brilliant. There is so much pressure to look creative and I def fall into that sometimes but I think for a lot of us, even art directors, I’d rather put that energy in my work and not my wardrobe so much. I’m capsule wardrobe all the way. But to each their own! I know so many creatives that dress so colorful and fashionably it’s just not for everyone. Some of us prefer a black and slacks on rotation uniform 😊
Because I like it.
Dark like my soul
It’s the law if you’re an NYC creative
You can have less clothes this way and not be judged for wearing the same thing/style :)
It’s dark and mysterious. Who doesn’t love a bit of drama?! 🎭 But in all seriousness, I think black—or any neutral color—just looks clean and professional. It also allows you to get away with more fun silhouettes and textures that color or loud patterns wouldn’t necessarily allow.
It’s minimalist, classy and fashionable with low effort

I have anxiety and self esteem issues. Having all my wardrobe be black reduces stress and overthinking because it all goes together, it’s vaguely stylish and generally flattering.
I’m a writer without a ton of style, so black sweatshirt and jeans make life easier for me
Usually deployed by people who lack imagination or taste but want to look cool and think black is a shortcut. Looking at you, Anselmo and Nils. Other correct answers include: overweight and self conscious or lazy, as outlined above by other respondents.
This is reading a lot into a simple color that’s universally flattering
Laziness?
Haven’t seen this. Seems like a stereotype.
Not in NYC
I wear color mostly earthy tones, but personally love wearing black. Forced RTO and I am MOURNING MY LIFE!! Just kidding, I just like the way I look

Minimalist, classy with a little edge. Plus, I don’t have to think about what I’m going to wear tomorrow. Yep, you guessed it. It’s the same outfit with a cleaner shirt.
I like the way I look in black. Has to do with my taste in music and style from the 80s. 😎🤣
Because I feel more comfortable in my body in dark colors
Joining the herd is one less decision to be made in the morning. Say it's minimalist and that you're a designer.
