Bain & Company Asking for advice: Recently received an offer from MBB and need to sign soon. I am also in the final round interviews this week with some bulge bracket banks and PE firms.
Should I accept the MBB offer first, then potentially renege if I get the BB/PE offer? Or would MBB allow for extension of offer signing? Not exactly sure what to do here. Don’t want to burn bridges/get blacklisted. McKinsey & Company Boston Consulting Group Bain & Company
Ask them for more time - if they refuse, accept the offer, and politely renege if you have to. It happens all the time. It might mean a burnt bridge, but there are other MBBs out there. And believe me, no firm will think twice about letting you go when times are tough. You have to look out for yourself.
This! Was at BCG during the great layoffs of 2023 and folks were let go that were amazing because we had to quietly cut cost!
Ask for an extension. If denied, only accept with the intent to honor it. Don’t treat MBB as a placeholder unless you’re willing to close that door.
Thank you all for your response! I asked and got a three day extension, which hopefully should be enough time for me to get the result from other firms.
MBB would forget you soon enough. Ask for a short extension. Accept if needed but remember, it takes a week to find a lawyer to review the employment contract and another week for them to get back to you about it. Who doesn’t have an attorney review the employment agreement?
