Asking for suggestions on learning goals. I generally prefer to have a certification, degree, or a real tangible skill. Already have MST, CPA, CMI Sales Tax.
Would be interested in CMI in state income tax or VAT but don’t currently work in either so not enough experience to test in either and work won’t pay for it. Have thought about tax law but not something I could do full time. Have already gotten some RPA and data analytics certificates but don’t think I have really useable skills.

I suggest finding a niche. It could be an area of taxation it could be using technology to solve tax related challenges. All the credentials in the world are not as valuable as becoming a subject matter expert in one particular area. High level knowledge, which is what most credentials cover, is not as important as being the expert in a few select topics. What comes out of your mouth in front of clients and coworkers proves your knowledge more than a few extra letters after your name.

What am I missing? Altyrx trainings, usable automation courses, VAT programs, part time tax law, etc… that aren’t super prohibitively expensive.

How about staying abreast of legislative changes… at your level it should be less about learning and more about keeping up with changes and teaching others.

I currently have the Chase sapphire preferred and Hyatt credit cards. I mainly use the Hyatt just for its perks when I stay there and transfer my chase points to Hyatt since that is the hotel I am loyal to. I typical save my points for hotels as Hyatt has fantastic redemption. I am thinking of adding the Amex gold to the mix. Thoughts on that combo?

I’m changing tactics. I’m not going to ask for more money, that’s a nonstarter. Instead I’ve decided to just work less, making my performance and productivity a direct correlation to what I get paid. Still will do a good job but not gonna be stressed about it. If my org wants more from me that comes at a cost.

Maxed out Roth IRA contributions when I wasn't eligible for 2021 (got a salary bump mid year). Do I need to recharacterize? It's a very small account that's been open for only two years. That's the only IRA account I own. Do I need to open a traditional IRA and roll over 6k + realized gains into that account and keep the Roth IRA. So confused how this works and got conflicting information from Merrill.

Los Angeles Area comp for 2nd year asset management?

Currently making $85k with a 7.5k signing bonus. Wondering if I’m being underpaid in my role. Ive tried probing my colleagues but no dice.

I accepted a role in New York City but my direct manager said I can work from home in Boston instead. My understanding is that I would be paying NY taxes, but not MA taxes. Can anyone here confirm? Also, would my employer have to incur any additional taxation because I am remote? They’re a really small firm and I worry that this sort of thing could be prohibitive for them despite my manager’s approval.
