Associate at a v30. Our firm just doubled incoming lateral referral bonus. Is it frowned up/in bad-taste to 1) actively solicit associates from other firms (who may not even be looking for a job) and 2) do the same on platforms like this?

One great option is when a recruiter touts their prior big law experience, see if they are interested in returning to a firm.

likefunny

Lol you can make some $$$ on this app by doing that

like

I would be hesitant to vouch for people I don’t know personally (at my AmLaw 100 firm one condition of the referral bonus is that we can vouch for them) so I wouldn’t solicit here but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with talking to people you know at other firms.

like

I have submitted a few referrals from here, and our two most recent laterals came from cold calls to our counterparts at competitor firms. Don’t be an ass about it, but I’ve had several folks casually mention to give them a call if I don’t we ever interested in their firm. Super common

Which firm? Can we split bonus? Lol

Off topic but can they double the year end bonus too :)

On a similar note, is it cringey/frowned upon to make a post on LinkedIn?

I don’t think it’s cringey to say your firm is hiring, reach out if interested. They offer a referral bonus because they want you to be motivated to reach out to your network. But I think other than a simple announcement could be cringey, and definitely don’t mention the referral bonus.

like

Did they also double their signing bonus?!

Started a new job 7 months ago. There’s been a hiring freeze and it seems they canned the recruitment team. Things seems to be slowing down drastically in the span of a week. Getting the resume all spiffed up and getting interviews together. When do you make the exit? “When you find a job” I know, but…

Also, would me making my exit to another role that I might leave in a 8 months bite me in the ass down the line? Do I just grab anything in the interim?

Next year, there will be an important deadline for the project I'm working on and my resignation could be critical for the team, how would you deal with it?

I have a question, I got a contract role through a recruiter. Initially the recruiter offered the hourly pay rate which was the minimum in my range. Now I got an offer from the company. Now without me asking her she increased the hourly wage to the maximum range I asked. Which makes me doubt if the company increased it or she knew the rate all along but gave me the lower rate ?

People who don’t submit their time daily, how do you remember what you did and for how long? I’ve always just submitted each timer as soon as I finish a task—“call with x re y” really doesn’t take that long even if I’m busy, and if I don’t do it immediately I’ll forget all those little I did in the morning by the time I go to bed. No shade at all to those with different systems, just genuinely curious because I see a lot about catching up at month end on here and I have no idea how that works??

I’m a 4th year and I’ve never billed contemporaneously for even a one full week. I guess I’d just rather have one day of torture recording all my hours at the end of the month than that extra little torture daily. I’m wondering how common or rare this is in BigLaw. Thoughts?
