AP to P at McK is cutthroat - most don’t make it. PE is a “safer” route.
Also I don’t know what I’m talking about - I’m just an analyst lol
McKinsey gets my vote. Some random portco owned by a PE firm won’t have the same cachet.

PE portco. Unlike what most people think on this platform, McKinsey will be more of the same for someone at your level. PE portco will be a different experience.
I’d stick it out for another job. A “PE PortCo” is actually just a company with high pressure to deliver growth or cut costs in a short amount of time. The PE part in this job is actually a negative and not a positive. There is a very low chance you’ll get picked up by the PE to jump from PortCo to PortCo.
I would only consider if you compensation package is directly related to profitability targets in a form of carry. Otherwise 🙅🏻♀️
I presume WLB is not a considered factor given the options you're pursuing.
I still would argue that M&A experience can be gained from a bettet job. However, it sounds like you're biased towards this role so I would say go for it. You can decide if you love it or lot after you do it for a few years.

PE firms don’t pay their portco teams well because they’re targeting the best possible IRR. Source: interviewed for a similar role just for a Senior Analyst position.

SP1 no just a strong bias against PE owned companies
I work for a Portco - I’ve watched our VP of Corp Dev age 5 years in 5 months.
Relentless pressure from the PE partners to deliver growth.

Portco. Could be much greater upside depending on your equity awards. And if it works out well, you’ll be in line for SVP and potentially EVP roles down the road.
Note: most people on here will say you can only make it big in consulting so watch out for that.

I would hope most know that VP Corp Dev can be a sweet job, but maybe you're right.

I think I would take VP at portco.
