It goes two ways. You either set three days as your work days and you absolutely do not work the remaining 5, or you have “reduced hours” but regular work week that really just means you work the same hours and are apologized to a lot.
Enthusiast
I have a junior on a reduced schedule post maternity leave. She made an announcement when she switched to part time, and sort of regularly very quietly reminds me of her schedule. For example, she will say “happy to help on that but I won’t be able to get to it until tomorrow” or “I won’t be able to take this whole thing on with my schedule. Can we bring someone in to assist?” After a couple of months of soft reminders, most of us just ask her now what she can take on and then staff around her. It seems annoying but it became routine really quickly. She does good work so it’s worth the very minor hassle to deal with her slightly limited availability.
Um. Props to you and your team.
