Back in the early days of digital advertising, we would sneak in some Easter eggs into the code. Nothing terrible. Just silly and fun things.

Really the only issue we ever had was a developer who would use swear words as variables and function names. Not really an Easter egg unless a user would see unless you were looking at the source code.

Anyway, anyone have modern examples of this?

Can’t say or won’t say? I heard rumors about BK way before I worked here at VML. That there were little clickable pixels hidden in the sites that would trigger pop ups with things like “fuuuck a Big Mac” or a super offensive version of the “DING, fries are done” video

Possibly! This was like 20 years ago. I didn’t know what it was exactly besides bad language, and perhaps that is why.

But I heard that the client found the “rogue code”.

I can’t say which account it was or who was responsible.
