Was thinking of doing the same thing. My wife and I have benefitted greatly from the companion pass each year we’ve had/used it. Another one plus the bonus miles seems like a win-win if you fly a couple times a year to justify the annual fee
Love that. Probably won’t actually split the accounts for a few months, but I think I’m going to. We’ve also had luck starting with a gold card, getting the 75k bonus, then upgrading that to platinum and getting another 75k bonus.
SUB chasing is always worthwhile but you will also end up with miles consistently deposited to P1 and P2 so need to manage that for redemption.
Delta miles are not the most valuable currency. Getting a high cashback card may be a better option and buying flights for cash.
Also depending on what yiu actually spend and what status you attain Reserve gives out more EQM so may tip you into Gold Status. Better for comp upgrades.
I have had more luck with sticking to Amex, Chase, or Capital One points for redemption value. My wife and I have been able to fly any airline with points easily from the three big branded cards. Works much better than cash back personally - although some may have better experiences with cash back cards.
