Bain & Company I’m from Italy and will start my master’s degree at Oxbridge this fall. I got my undergrad from a target uni in continental Europe. I want to start my career in consulting, possibly MBB, in London. I know consulting firms tend to hire locally but I’d really like to work in London and that’s also one of the main reasons why I went for the Oxbridge degree. Can you not transition to M&A within your own firm using the network of people you've worked with? Probably easier than moving elsewhere, and even if it doesn't come with a significant package upgrade it'll get you the deal experience you need to move elsewhere in a year or two?
Hey, thank you for your response! Yea I’ve tried applying within the firm as well and have not been successful so far (I’m still constantly trying though). So I’m based in Central Europe and these M&A roles are mostly in the hub locations. I also looked into the backgrounds of some of the asset managers I work with, most of them are from top business schools and relevant experiences before getting into the current role they are in. I’ve also talked about it with my manager about this and he said I probably will have a better chance if I apply outside the firm. So that’s what I’ve been doing lately but still struggling …
