I think this is mostly true in dysfunctional workplace that have lazy management. Ideally, the division of labor should be fair and not just punishing for people who went above and beyond when it comes to their education.

I agree with this totally. If they are expecting more of you they should compensate you fairly.

That situation happens often. High performing clinicians sometimes get assigned the most demanding cases because managers trust their ability. It can feel like competence increases workload rather than recognition.
