Simple. Take classes on public speaking and learn how to “own a room.” I’m serious. This industry rewards the talkers and BS artists who exude false confidence. You master that, you’ll rise faster than you could’ve ever imagined.
The number of terrible creatives and morons I’ve seen rocket to the top over the years is astounding. And it’s 100% because of what I just said.

Have you tried being conventionally attractive?
unfortunately your agency has to be able to afford to give you a raise... which is increasingly hard to come by these days. but make sure you're physically tracking your wins and positive feedback. for my last promotion, i made a deck and they got a kick out of it. worth a shot.
Sometimes it’s just one Creative Director who really advocates, believes in you and can strong arm cross functionally to lift you up.
This. All it boils down to is if your bosses like you, and if their boss knows/likes you.
Politics. Get people on your side. Make them fight for what you want. That’s it.
Change jobs. No seriously, jumping agencies every year or two is the fastest way. I have spent on average two years at every level, and am now getting CD level offers without even being an ACD for a full two years yet.

That's what I've heard but I kind of hate that that's the main way to get ahead.

Think bigger than the job. That is, imagine how you’d do your job if you had the next job. I’m not sure I’m a great ECD but I’m def a better gcd than when I was a gcd.
