Best place to have a 3-4 day weekend in the north East right now with COVID? Looking to book something special with my family that they feel is safe since our south Florida trio fell through :( Criteria - love being outdoors and if possible near a beach

My parents just did a long weekend in Maine and had a great time. Probably too cold to go in the ocean but plenty of hiking/other outdoorsy things to do

like

Oh cool, how many oceans did you visit when you lived there?

like

Maine or Cape Cod are both nice places to visit in the summer. Or Newport, RI.

Would you mind sharing the link to the Airbnb! I’m looking now and can’t find anything available

The Hamptons, the beaches are not crowded, outside restaurant seating, and it's close by, driving distance. But you need to book a place near a beach since you need a resident beach pass to park. Anyone can walk in or bike in.

like

We are fans of Montauk. It is more mellow than the Hamptons. You have hiking and beach in one location. The North fork of LI is even more chill.

like

As I said above I would look at Montauk, North Fork of LI, the Cape, or Maine. All are drivable from you. All will have a mix of things to do.

Be safe. Be smart. But I understand very much your need to get away. We spent two weeks in Montauk around July 4th and it was just what the doctor ordered.

A beach will be tough honestly. While I obviously cannot speak to every beach, my overwhelming sense from my friends and myself is beaches are too crowded in the northeast to comfortably social distance.

What I’m planning is doing a airbnb in a beautiful somewhat remote location.

Came here to suggest the finger lakes! Not an ocean beach, but still on the water. TONS of outdoor activities to do, wineries, restaurants, shopping, etc.

Newport! Went on a long weekend there in June - super cute place, good beaches and plenty to do! Highly recommend

After 5 years of freelancing (which I have loved) I am considering a full-time gig. Although COVID is in the back of my mind, this is more about what I’ve been lacking since FL: consistent team, seeing an idea all the way through, challenging myself to grow, being exposed to latest tech trends to better my ideas... I know I can always go back to FL if FT doesn’t work out, but curious where others’ heads are at these days. Am I crazy to consider going back to the golden shackles?

So I get that in a corporate set up, you are supposed to be sharp and witty and think on your feet. Trouble is, I am extremely slow with comebacks. (Think Ross in Friends/Amy in B99) at the crunch moment, I generally end up not being able to give a good roast back. Unfortunately the best of them come to me like a few hours later (dinner/shower/TV) and I am left ruing and amazing opportunity to have gotten one back. I am awful at jibes and roasts.

Anyone else suffer from this?

If you were still in undergrad would you prefer 1. Go back to campus and have an in person/hybrid learning experience with restrictions on social life
2. Have your school go fully remote for the entire fall semester
3. Defer for a year and resume your education fall 2021 when things will hopefully be “normal”
I think I’d choose 3 but idk. Tough call, and I feel bad for current college students
