I personally would go with a new Model 3. I think the interior is nicer. With the S/X refresh, the old models may be susceptible to lose their value faster too. But if the performance specs of the S are that important to you, then there’s your answer.
How much driving do you do? Is the supercharger free miles really worth it when you have to charge on the road vs home? If you own, can be worth installing a charger as you can often recover the cost when you sell. If a landlord, can ask to split the cost as it makes it more attractive for future tenants. We currently rent and just use a wall PowerPoint. Is slow but we don’t commute daily so easy. Charging at home is super convenient!!!
Can’t say I know a lot about the extra space but is the 3 large enough? Going bigger also means bigger car so more tight car spaces.
Where you based? Do you get EV credits? US could have a $7k federal credit coming soon which tesla should be eligible for. Does this bring the LR or Y into contention?
Wouldn’t the older S have a battery with a depleted capacity?
Depends on the age and how it was used - aggressive driving? Recharging constantly to 100% or only 90% (with 100% used for odd road trip)? Depleted how low how often? Supercharging constantly or slower overnight charger? Hot vs cold climate? Etc.
All in all, Tesla’s batteries don’t deflate as aggressively as the competition.
Wait a month or two for the new battery pack. Supposedly anything Tesla manufactured after a certain date in February will have the new battery pack.
Have you looked into a Model Y Performance?
I'd recommend buying now because there will always be improvements down the line.
