I’ll sum up what you should do here... buy index funds, buy low cost mutual funds and dollar cost average. Your welcome, you are now have a much greater statistical chance of generating meaningful positive returns
Value weighted index funds still flawed, tend to weight too heavily to larger companies given recent decades’ increase in concentration of value for major indices. If you go index route, recommend at least some money in equally weighted indices. And some global exposure.
Skip the books, it’s so easy... Buy low, sell high. Good luck!

Recommend “The Investment Answer” to start with - a very short and concise thesis on investing.
Then look into “One Up On Wall Street” and “The Intelligent Investor.”

Great beginner’s book, and you can base your entire investment strategy off this if you don’t want to get fancy/spend a lot of time (which is what I do)

Came here to recommend this
One up on Wall Street!
By far the most beginner friendly book out there by one of the best
Good books on investing are rare. Couple of the ones ppl suggested are good for fundamentals, but I’d balance them out with Black Swan and Fooled by Randomness
I’ll sum it up
Google efficient market theory.
Buy index funds
Nothing more to know for personal investing
Diversify across industries and geography.
Trying to time the market will just miss out on gains more often than not.
Be as aggressive as your timeline of capital needs allows (maybe don’t put everything in stocks if you need the money to buy a house next year)
VOO, VGT, QQQ (all low fee ETFs) are good for S&P500 coverage and tech coverage
I really like invested and have also listed to the podcast. I’m recently got into investing and have read the intelligent investor, education of a value investor, principles, the dhando investor etc. The best out of all of these is invested by Danielle Town. Intelligent investor is a bit theoretical and invested is more hands on.
The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins.
Or read the Stock Series on his blog. He started the blog for his then 17-yr old daughter. Very easy, and fun, to read.
