Can someone explain using VA healthcare while having private insurance? I have a non service connected condition I need checked out but my private primary dr can’t see me for like 2 months.

What will I be responsible for costs? How does it work with my private insurance? My deductible which I haven’t hit yet? PwC has terrible super high deductible insurance if it matters. I’m also 90% service connected any priority group 1.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. If you have a service connected disability, you get VA health insurance at no cost for all medical needs. I have a service connected disability and I went to a VA clinic when I had a gotten a food impaction in my esophagus. They transferred me to a public hospital and footed 100% of the bill for the scope to remove it. Everyone, regardless of disability rating gets 5 years of medical coverage after exiting the military.

I got out in 2015 and haven’t really used the VA but they just opened a new clinic right around the corner from my apartment

Priority 1 doesn’t pay for services at the VA if I’m not mistaken, you do have to enroll in VA healthcare though.

I use the VA for my eye exams and basic checkups, no issues. Based on insurance, you may have a small copay. I paid $10 for two pairs of glasses at VA last year and $1,800 at visionworks with insurance and "deals" the year prior.

I’ve had all sorts of things done over the last 10 weeks. Probably $10k+ worth of services. Haven’t paid anything yet or seen anything kicked to or reflected in my insurance. So we’ll see what happens ha
