I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

Your experience, comp and exit options heavily depend on the role you take up, ie investment or ops.
Investment team - rainmakers of the firm, get the highest pay. For example, as an Analyst I’m probably pulling the salary a consultant at MBB makes, but my work hours are super erratic too. 5 AM calls on a Monday with a US based CEO of a potential portfolio company is a reality. Generally I have to schedule my weekday life around my work, but weekends are 100% no work (unless there’s a deal underway or an exit happening in the fund.)
For me exit ops would be in Hedge funds, Venture Capital, Management consulting, Investment Banking, other Private Equity firms, Corporate finance roles in the portfolio companies or other companies, and the list goes on. This is the POV of an investment team member, ops folks have a totally different experience.
@PE1 thanks for the candid response.
Any idea what the comp range looks like for a PE Associate or VP in India?
Thanks! That really widened my perspective!
