Great program in theory but none of the first years want to go so some are sent based on a lottery and it’s not really their choice. Those that come back are essentially first years who do not know anything and it’s harder for them to get staffed cause their other classmates can do basic junior tasks.

It was completely voluntary... my first year mentee also got to choose if she wanted to go based on what the opportunities were available and chose her assignment. Maybe they did it differently in litigation but I've trained and spoken to most of the first years and haven't heard that anyone was forced into it or unhappy with their assignment.
They'll def have a ramp up period but if the firm's busy by then, it shouldn't be super difficult to at least get on matters.
What’s being “seconded”? Have they been sent on secondments? Very unusual for stubs or first years.

I think the trainings that I led were super informative lol but ok... all of the juniors got substantive work during that time too. We just supplemented with more formal training than we normally do all at once.
