That sounds like you’re asking the people on this app to do their own homework. Them’s fightin’ words!
Hahaha no just curious to see if 10k cut is worth fully remote and a good wlb or if someone would start commuting for 10k more. Or 20k or 30k. Curious what people’s threshold is these days
Honestly I think I’m at it—I’m at about 300k a year TC, 100% WFH, 40-45 hours a week, in a LCoL city (Pittsburgh).
I’m a senior engagement manager…base+bonus+RSU (not including ESPP).
I was at Deloitte before here—there’s just a much healthier culture around work here than when I was at Deloitte in the MARS practice. It’s made me realize how little I was actually getting done when I was working until 7-8 most nights.
I also got 26 weeks of paternity leave, and have taken at least 5-6 weeks of vacation each year since I’ve been here.
Honestly, I think it is really hard to know what work life balance would ACTUALLY be for you at a new company, so unless my current company was so horrible I was quitting no matter what, I would not take a pay cut for the hopes that the grass is greener elsewhere
Just dropped 60k to stop traveling and see my kids grow up. YOLO. love Salesforce comment about what is life changing.
Definitely not taking pay cut unless I really know what I’m getting into is much much better than the current job. Or if I ran out of options which by no doubt have to take the opportunity that is offered. Otherwise, no way lol.
I took a pay cut. Totally worth it, I didn’t realize there were so many hours in the day. I get off between 3-4. WFH. It feels like I have so many options with my time, esp things I can do after work
I think it starts with the TC. Once it gets to point where I'm comfortable, you'll have to at least 50k to make me even think about it. So to answer your questions yes I would take a paycut for a better wlb. Even if that means doing a side hustle on the weekend to make up the difference.
To me the amount is always “what’s life changing money?”
When I was making 35k a year in DC as an intern, getting a 15k raise WAS life changing.
Now, cutting 2-3x that amount wouldn’t change my lifestyle all that much.
I was laid off from a 100% remote role. Accepted a role with a new company having to be in the office 2 days a week with an hour commute each way, but saw a 18% increase in base and a 25% increase in TC. Figured l would suck it up with how the job market is and reassess in a year.
On the other hand, I feel like it would take much more money to have me commute daily vs the amount I would give up to be remote. Certainly not linear but interesting responses!
I generally wouldn’t leave my company for a pay cut. If I’m starting over somewhere else and taking on more uncertainty then I better be getting paid more. If you’re asking me to come in every day, then it better be even more but I’m not opposed as long as you’re paying me the big buxxxxx $$$
