Amazing city with very friendly people. Better work life balance than NYC, lot of the clients are less intense and are from the Midwest. You can live a much higher quality of life, way less expensive than NYC. You can probably get a much bigger apartment, live in a hotter neighborhood etc. Beautiful architecture. Great restaurant scene, not as large as NYC but it’s still amazing and also more affordable. Lots to do and explore. Down sides: not as many top-tier agencies. Rougher winters. Not as many transplants as NYC.
Good summary.
Don’t. Underestimate. Winters.
Just moved from Chicago to NYC. I can’t get over how warm it is here!
It’s Chicago. Don’t.
Good planning is hard to get off the ground there. Hard to get cracking good writers that are not freelance too. In my experience that is.
(All fair points you have btw. But I LIKE KETCHUP ON MY DOG)
The wind / lake effect in winter is beyond brutal. You couldn’t pay me enough to live there. (And I grew up in Maine).
People live there. You will be fine. Also, the city is more cleaner than NYC. I miss Chicago :)
Nice people. Low cost of living. Less hours. Beautiful parks. Great food. Wide range of culture and entertainment options. Second tier advertising. Choose what’s important to you.
People aren’t as friendly as you’d expected. Pretty segregated actually.
Can confirm
Chicago is less expensive. It’s also less everything. Second tier everything especially compared to nyc.
Try TracyLocke? A recruiter approached me a couple weeks ago. Not sure if the role is already filled.
DDB’s former retail shop. They have some good thinkers in there (at least 2 years ago).
