Need more context. Where are you coming from and what are you looking for in your next role?
Don't do it
Sorry knee jerk response earlier - I'd reconsider IBM... It's a dinosaur and I've yet to meet someone that loves it here.
My ibm friends all feel overworked and underpaid....
@A1 Exactly.
How did you get the McK interview? Are you post-MBA?
Best route is McK imho. I think among the big four, D pays the most but has an aggressive culture. P is nice and I like it here.
Lol @Traitorjoe, name fit perfectly for the scenario. OP, keep in mind IBM will have more unique tech opportunities than most of the other firms, but weaker on the consulting side. If you're trying to specialize in tech, but stay in consulting then it could be a good fit.
Have a friend at ACN who was at ibm, he hated it.
IBM is known for being cheap re travel expenses. Be warned.
Sorry, couldn't fit enough detail in to OP. Right now I'm in a tech project management focused role. I think I want to focus more on strategy and core competencies but am really unsure. Ultimately I want something to set me up best for the future since I know I don't want to be in consulting forever. Apologies if that's a bit ambiguous....
Nope, got it out of undergrad, Same with the big 4 interview I turned down. Current interest is from another big 4 and IBM. Just looking for opinions/advice on best route for a successful future
To your point on IBM..... I felt the same way but have a couple very intelligent friends who say they are challenged there and doing solid work/projects. Also read an article on how other they are #2 as far as hiring from top ranked schools behind Google which of course is based off of the volume of people, but still
@P1 thanks for the insight. Insight on IBM?
If you want to stay in tech (and not in consulting), I'd consider networking into one of them newfangled tech firms Google/LinkedIn in some Business Intelligence or Product Manager type role. The grass seems greener in terms of perks/pay/culture. As far as the work at IBM: all the projects I've been at have been huge and challenging with some solid team members, but a mess at the top - call me disillusioned.
@IBM1 appreciate the insight. I've heard similar opinions from others at big 4 firms as well which is why the situation seems more complicated to me then maybe it should be
Where are you coming from
What happened with McKinsey?
I've had no issues with travel. There was a time where you couldn't flex but that's since been resolved. I think it really depends where you land at IBM. What area would you get hired into?
