Honestly, I think you're fine. I had the same lifestyle as you up until fairly recently. If you're tempered with your expenses and going out, you can save on that salary and still have a good life.
It gets much easier once you find a partner and move in together. Splitting expenses and rent is a huge help.
7k less salary. I pay $1300 a month in rent (shared 1bd with partner) but more on travel and weekends (eating and drinking) to make up for it. Have a small dog and older car also. It depends what your priorities are. Right now mine are having fun and exploring so I don’t save a lot, but I do a lot of the travel and weekending. I would say if you’re saving and not spending a lot outside of necessities you’re good.
Earning more than that, $1400 rent(brand new apartment brentwood) with all amenities. But it’s a 2bed2bath, have a stranger house mate.
No pet, company car & gas so no expenses there. I have a tiffin service that I pay less than $300/month for 48 meals.
Go out every other weekend & spend like 100-300 per outing depending on where I’m at.
I’d say if house/family is the goal, definitely over means unless you get a partner making similar wage & is willing to equally contribute to the household.
It’s 2800+ utilities 🙃 I meant my share
Kinda hard to lay out all of that math but doesn't sound like you're throwing your money away by any means. Hope you can hold onto the vehicle for a good amount of time.
Vancouver is the 3rd most expensive place in Canada. You pay too much for the rent. How big is the place though?
$2K a month is cheap for rent in Vancouver.
I rent my 2bed/1bath basement suite for $2K a month, we had 200+ people inquire about it. We could have charged 250-300 more but wanted a reliable tenant.
If you want to live in a half-decent condo in the city, not even downtown, you’re likely around there if not more.
