Rising Star
The entire purpose of them giving you stock is so you can take a lesser salary in the hope that they eventually get bought and you get rich. Basically expect to not make as much base salary
Also - most investors expect to get their investment back in 5-8 years....I'm not sure when your company received it's first investment dollars but are you planning to stay there long enough for them to get sold
Great advice, I agree that the lower salary has a huge payoff if you plan to stick around for the buy out
I would say if you have the numbers and experience to back it up, go for it.
If this is lower than your current base then definitely. They are still paying you for your experience, even if not directly related. I don't think 10k is a massive ask either. You don't want to regret selling yourself short later.
I don't see why not. Your counter-offer seems fair. Worse they can say is no. Good luck!
Yes, definitely over the phone or video chat. Not email. Good luck!
This is becoming an incredibly common thing, and it's a kind of a way to price you out on the base because they're hoping you take a gamble. I would definitely go back to them with that counter-offer, it seems more than reasonable
