Currently found myself with a lot of free time and looking to learn a useful tech skill. I have experience in solution architecture, but nothing more technical than that. Any recs on a hot skill that would be useful to know (e.g., analytics, cloud, AI, ML, etc.)? Don’t know where to start..

AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

Better, Try learning to build a RESTful application. You’ll need NodeJS (probably) for API work unless you want to do something else in a lambda function. Java/Python for core application workloads: get a handle on object oriented design so that the AI ML Analytics modules make sense as part of an integrated application that can deliver some value.

ie, implementing an OCR application with tensorflow in python if you want to combine RPA with some NLP.

Experience in solution architecture can be incredibly technical. Cloud isn’t something that one learns in a few months sadly :(

I am currently a civil engineer thinking of switching to software engineering. I got my masters in water resource engineering where I was coding a decent amount for assignments and it has really stuck with me. Unfortunately, in my current role and field (civil), I don’t really get to do much coding. Does anyone have a similar experience of jumping ship to do software engineering? What would be the best way to go about it (coding bootcamp, another degree, something else)?

Even without LinkedIn, I see a lot of people younger than me in much better roles. They started off with relevant jobs right out of college. I’m constantly comparing myself to others who are younger than me.
