Any advice for a first year attorney in litigation considering switching to this area?

Having litigation experience can help you think ahead to “how could this clause possibly blow up if someone gets mad about it later.” I started in criminal prosecution before switching to estate planning and I do think the litigation background has helped me think deeply about what could go wrong and to walk my clients through those possible pitfalls so that hopefully things don’t blow up later.

Find a law firm that handles estate planning as a primary focus and go there to learn the ropes. Also, take estate planning, probate, tax planning, and long-term care Medicaid planning CLEs.

I want out of healthcare so badly but as the sole wage earner in my family I cannot afford to start over in an entry level role in a new industry. I am so systemically exhausted I am struggling to translate my current skill-set to market myself into non- healthcare markets. When I say non- healthcare, I truly mean completely NOTHING to do with any direct clinical or patient related/facing anything. Anyone have any worda of wisdom or insight? Any positive experiences in doing this yourselves?

Any attorneys in the Bay Area practicing just in estate planning (not litigation), can you give your take on whether you would get enough business to do only planning? I'm currently doing family law and I want to start moving away from litigation. For family law there really isn't a non litigation role that produces enough business (i.e. mediation). I do okay, but definitely have to take on more litigation than I prefer. I was thinking estate planning might be a good addition to the mix.
