The planner survey is a great resource for this based on years in the biz and years in strategy. Look it up
What city?
What kind of strategist are you? And at what kind of agency? How many years of experience? How desperate are they to keep you? Do you have another offer in hand?
The title itself dictates little.
In New York City, brand strategy, and honestly we’ve lost a lottttt of people lately so I’d say a little desperate
When I was a strategy director in NYC, I got an offer from another agency and when I told my boss I was thinking about leaving he talked to the CEO and got me a 40k raise to stay. I stayed. My starting salary as an associate strategist was $60k and by the time I left as Director it was $187k (5.5 years later)
The percentage thing doesn’t always work because you might be significantly underpaid and require a “salary adjustment” - definitely worth asking for.
