Mental health experts warn that teenagers are struggling with mental health issues, like depression and anxiety. I read a report recently that said 1 in 5 teens has a mental health issue. We're in crisis mode!

My daughter just started high school so I’m keeping a close eye on her
Thanks for this. I'm in kind of a tough place right now with my 15 year old daughter, and could really use some of these tips.

Supporting Your Teens Mental Health
Call to action: In 2021, the American Academy of Pediatrics along with American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry declared a national emergency in child and adolescent mental health. They called for increased funding for mental health resources, as well as other actions. These are all necessary, and efforts to ensure them are ongoing. But while we work to build mental health care systems, there are things that parents can do to help their children and teens through this crisis:
1. Encourage them to share their feelings: Look for ways to check in and remind them that you are there for them, no matter what.
2. Take time to support them: Work together on setting up new routines and achievable daily goals. But remember to encourage your teen to take breaks to do things they enjoy.
3. Work through conflict together: Listen to your teens views and try to sort out conflict calmly. Remember: everyone gets stressed!
4. Care for yourself: Showing self-care is a good way of modeling practices.
