Have any of you ever been in a situation where you are on an hourly contract and they don’t want you to bill more than 40 hours a week, and instead of paying you your hourly rate for the extra hours, they try to knock a few hours off of a slower day? If so, what did you do.

i’ve freelanced under my s corp as a 1099 and under my personal name as w-2. i’m currently in between gigs, can i claim unemployment? does it depend on how i set myself as an s corp (i.e. as an employee but not running payroll when i’m out of work?) i’ve had an llc for the past year and just changed it into an s corp; haven’t run payroll yet. typically would ask my accountant this but she’s OOO for another 2 weeks 😩

Does being on H1B affect your chances at firms that sponsor visas in the current climate? Been applying to tech/consulting firms that are known to sponsor visas but I’ve been rejected almost immediately (-couple days) or not getting responses even if I applied through referral/was a good fit for the role. Want to leave current firm but it’s so hard to get even initial interview. Any tips?

I received a promotion to a new level and a raise 3+ years ago. Shortly thereafter, HR gave a presentation to a group where I was able to see that I was actually outside of the typical pay range for that level which is otherwise pretty broad. Fast forward 2-3 years later and I believe I've earned to be at least within the range (whatever it might be now) based on my performance. Suggestions on approaching HR or your direct manager?
