I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I work at an MSP (Managed Service Provider) meaning we are the IT services for many other companies. It’s busy all the time and I get to experience all different types of apps, OSes, and almost every aspect of IT in this way. I make around 50k which is alright but its hectic as there’s too many tickets and not enough personnel. I heard this is common but I’m not sure.

My last therapist keeps coming up in my mind. I left her when I moved to a new area before COVID dug in and frankly it felt like leaving a girlfriend. She also disclosed in the final session that she was a member of AA and knew several of the people I occasionally discussed from the rooms. Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.

I have an informational interview with a Managing Director on Friday about a manager role. I currently serve in a client services role and do not have traditional consulting experience (billable hours, etc.). Additionally, while I’ve worked with McKinsey, Accenture, McKesson, and other teams on major projects, I don’t have experience putting together the strategy, more of a support function. Feeling a tad intimidated! Any tips would be so very appreciated!
