2017 - Chicago, 200k, contract. Basically working non stop. Would've been more if freelance client paid on time.
2018 - 165k, much more sustainable, contract re up every 90 days which I cannot warn against doing enough.
I don't recommend it unless you are impervious to burn out. Had insurance half covered per hour worked, 401k option without match.
Now looking to west coast for stability and longer term growth.
Lead with a very deep background.
2017 was an outlier for me because of how much I was working. But with that said, rates fluctuate between 65-80, retail is lowest. Logistics closer to 80. 90$/hr kicks in at big consulting places, healthcare and fintech.
Don't let ppl low-ball you if you have the chops.
125K (no stocks/bonuses) at a large global agency’s Chicago office.
Global agency in Washington D.C. $106,000. Still on the quest for a promotion.
🤣
Thank you for sharing LPD1. This is super helpful. I need to up my rate.
Also in regards to rates, always confirm w2 or 1099.
Also if they are going from salary to rate, don't let them pull the BS calculation assuming you work 8 hrs every day of the year as it's totally unrealistic and unfair. I go by the following
40hrs * 4 weeks * 11.25months. most contractors cannot bill company holidays.
If using this math, it works in your benefit to convert from hourly rate to salary. So let them do the math and just be quiet :)
