Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Any trans in this bowl from India ?
I posted my startup on here a couple of weeks ago and received valuable feedback from this bowl. I’ve made updates to the landing page and I’m looking for additional feedback. The site is still a work in progress, but would really appreciate if you could please take a few minutes to check out the site (Outvisory.com) and give feedback. Do you get the site’s value prop? What’s missing? First impressions etc. thank you!

Some times it helps to get a new lamp or stapler or keyboard or something. Go to one of their desks and see if you can still grab one.
Don't make it about yourself - channel your energy into supporting those who were. Not being sarcastic.
Be a friend, help connect them to opportunities that you hear of so they can get themselves back with a job as soon as possible
@CD1 tsk tsk
@OP...for what it's worth, this stuff rattles me too. Take a moment to tune into what you're feeling. Is it sadness, worry, grief, all of the above? And in whatever way works for you, take a moment to acknowledge it - drinks with a couple friend, call one of your friends that lost their job, call your family.
Also, download headspace and try meditating to get yourself back to center.
And last but not least, hugs solve a lot of things. Not joking.
Hope you feel better. 🤗
@OP, it's actually not really cruelty. The unfortunate truth is that to run a business tough decisions need to be made. I think the issue is usually that many companies handle these situations poorly, with limited humanity (not saying that's the case at Digi).
People who have to recover from tough situations build resiliency. It will all work out
I agree about offering support to those who were affected. I was laid off when I was an art sup 2 weeks after getting promoted. It was in the peak of the financial crisis, 45 of us were cut in 2 hours, and nobody was hiring. The real shock of it doesn't immediately hit u when you're cut, your friends and coworkers I'm sure would appreciate ongoing support. Luckily, the economy is in a good place and many agencies are hiring. The best advice I could give to those who haven't faced it before. Be financially prepared, save $, and keep your work backed up.

@STRAT2 thank you. Definitely focusing on being a friend to my former coworkers. I have a mixture of sadness for them and fear of a second wave of layoffs. As a Jr level employee this is my first taste of the cruelty of agency life. #Sucks
CD1, one of my old coworkers used to call this "robbing the graves" - still gives me chills thinking about it
Another DH-er here. It's eerily quiet today. Hang in there. Morale will improve.
