But get an internal referral if you can.

A recruiter but vet them first.

Let’s just say if they were regulated, they’d almost always be in trouble.

Apply yourself; you’ll get more of the process and success.

It depends on what city and if they currently have openings. Some recruiters can get you opportunistic opportunities that you can't really get on your own.

like

Depends. What firm are you at now?

I think a recruiter isn’t a bad option. I always say good friend (someone who can vouch for you) > recruiter > random associate who will submit you but can’t really vouch for you > direct apply.

Recruiter

Recruiters are good because they have a vested interest in getting you top dollar. They get a percentage of your salary as commission. It’s a pretty ridiculous percentage as well. But if you have an in with the company, definitely go that direction.

My supervisor gave me 8hours of AWOL because I couldn't show up one day because I was under anxiety. I have gave him letters from psychiatrist, psychologist that I'm passing through this. He didn't care and gave me an AWOL. I want to leave my job because my department is very toxic but I don't want to leave having that on my records.
If I move to another job later on (private or federal) this 8 hours of AWOL will show up?

I’m on the Board of entity A (volunteer basis) and I’ll have an interview for a legal counsel position at entity B. Entity A and B have a partnership such that me working for entity B will create conflict of interest. Should I disclose my relationship with entity A during the initial interview with entity B’s hiring manager? If so, what should I say? I don’t want my volunteer job at entity A potentially jeopardizes my full-time job at entity B.

Thoughts on sending out assignments over the weekend? I work a lot on weekends, but I don’t expect associates too. But, because I work on weekends, I often will send out assignments by email with a clear indication in subject line and body that it does not need to be completed or worked on over the weekend. A friend recently mentioned this isn’t the best since seeing the assignment may create unnecessary stress and anxiety. So, what say you? Am I terrible partner?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Rising 2L here…Just found out yesterday that one of my top target law firms is not participating in OCIs (they don’t have offices in my state). Any advice on the best way to move forward with them? Still planning to apply, just want to know what I should be doing. Thanks!

Does anyone know how litigation finance works on the plaintiff side? If someone wanted to bring a lawsuit against their former employer would a general contingency arrangement with a plaintiff’s firm make sense? Or would one need to find funding and then contact a plaintiff’s firm to actually handle the case? I’m a transactional lawyer, so this is out of my wheelhouse.

I have an interview at a firm that focuses on criminal defense. I currently work in ID and have years of previous PD experience. I’ve never worked in private criminal defense. What questions should I ask in the interview? What should be looking at to evaluate whether it is a good practice?
