I have always jumped after 2 years for increases. Always have gotten good reviews but I’d rather jump for 20-40% bump than work my ass off at the same place only to get a 10% raise or whatever. My salary jumps from leaving have been 40% followed by 30%. But making partner isn’t my dream
Money talks. Became quite jaded about “the value of loyalty” early on and have not regretted the 30% increases I’ve received from each jump. I’ll stop when I feel like it’s time to coast
I have no intention to, but you never know so I’ve made sure there was no bad blood. Building your network is always a challenge, but I enjoy meeting new people anyway
After the dismal pay increases and anemic bonus’s at Accenture this year even which a great rating, many of us are leaving or have left. I’m moving to KPMG for a more senior role 32% increase starting the beginning of January.
Nice 👍 👍
Realistically if you’re in consulting to set up your exit to industry, probably a fine approach to build a strong base before you leave the industry.
I found a firm I love working at, haven’t hopped around and I’m getting paid $300k+. If you’re in consulting for the long haul, I believe the every 2-3 year hoppers dramatically undervalue their networks and will have quite a bit of trouble reaching partnership
I have job hopped every 2-3 years and always with 30%+ pay increases. Now that I’m at a comfortable level and have the WLB I had craved my goal is to work hard but coast and focus on family. Companies no longer truly value employees when I see new hires coming substantially higher and doing the same work I knew I had to look out for myself.
Yup, jump throughout your twenties but try to settle in somewhere for 4-5+ years thereafter. I went from 80k TC in 2019 to 140k TC in 2020 to 220k TC in 2021 by jumping. Well worth it!
Yes, ive doubled my salary twice in 4 years this way. Am nlw trying to settle. Probably not as realistic if you're already in a high salary band.
1st job 72.5k, left after 1 year for 90k, left that job after 2 years for $120k, left that job after 2 years for $150k, been at my current job for a ~1.5 years now. So with 5 YOE I was at $150k, most of my coworkers that didn’t move are just now hitting $120k-$130k with like 5.5 YOE (assuming they got their end of year promotion). Companies have no loyalty.
It’s not just in consulting. Management did it all the time when I worked at a large bank.
Consulting is built for job hopping. Every 2-3 years, you get to the next level. Once you get to the next level/promo, you jump. I started at 70k as an analyst 5 years ago, jumped twice since then, and now I’m in tech and making ~230K TC
