This is pretty much entirely dependent on what your parents are like. There are some who will start asking you for money and others that will give you financial advice to make your money longer. I share with mine but I wouldn't recommend doing so for everyone.
This is true!! I feel like I can’t because not only my parents but family will also ask for money.
Why the secrecy? My parents are mad proud of how far I've come in my career and how much I make.
It depends on what type of family you grew up in I guess. Mine is proud but also will tell everyone in the family tree and then they’ll ask for money.
I don’t, but I’m a super private person. Even my spouse is unaware of my salary, we keep our finances completely separate.
Hmmm I like this approach. My spouse and I keep our money separated also but they do know how much I make.
It depends on your relationship with your family. I told my parents immediately and they were excited . I make more than them individually and they couldn’t be prouder
That’s so great you have such supportive parents!! 💜
Oh hell no! Not if your parents and other family members are going to smooch off of you. You have a spouse (your own family to take care of). This is not to say you wouldn't help your parents if needed. But not a weekly, daily thing.
Is this a cultural thing, or just that your relatives are consistently financially strapped?
It’s definitely a cultural thing. Everyone is doing fine or even better (my siblings are in tech).
I do share with my mom how much I make. We're close and I don't see any problem with it. Don't worry, she doesn't force me to do it🤣
That’s a great relationship to have!! Wish I could do that.
