Hmm... I'm not really sure. You could always give it a go and investigate further... https://aflcio.org/formaunion/rights-unionize
I don't really see how this would work. I mean the union would probably protect employees from abuse/harassment from their superiors but it wouldn't do much to protect them from customers.
I thought a union's role is to ensure that its members are paid fair wages and provided access to support services. Doesn't give them the power to reject customers, since the main job of CS is to respond to customer concerns and complaints.
Everyone company should be able to reject a customer who is being unreasonable, atleast where they are legally allowed to do so.
While you do what you can to make your customer happy, or at the very least calm and placate them, at the end of the day you work for a business whose interests you’re are frontline looking out for and they are definitely the higher priority than customer on the phone with you. Do what you can, provide exceptional service, but don’t auto give in to customer demands
We've already seen customer facing employees unionize, and there hasn't been a dramatic shift in customer vs employee relations. Overall, rude customers to the point that you have to refuse service is still a low occurence and not that important of an issue.
Yes, through organization, service workers stand to gain the power to refuse service to someone who is selfish or abusive. The only firm guarantee is that no power is gained except through struggle.
