I’m in Texas and have always worn sleeveless. If anyone is offended by my bare shoulders, then that’s a reflection on them and not on me.
Yep- often wear both (sort of like a mock high neck top)- I just try to make sure that if the top is sleeveless, then the neckline is more conservative. I walk to work so if I wore long sleeves I’d be drenched and arguably more unprofessional.
Agree with the above. If I go sleeveless I make sure the neckline is modest and I always bring a cardigan or blazer just in case. I love a good sleeveless button down blouse or a shell style top. Def not unprofessional as long as you style appropriately.
I would say depends on the market, office culture and your supervisors. I got a talking to for wearing bear shoulders on an impromptu video call with my manager when WFH. She told me point blank that it's ok for her to have her arms out because she's the boss, and I should have sleeves. I thought it was a ridiculous comment, but appreciated her being straight forward rather than judging me silently, and I've never been seen sleeveless again. I also have not seen anyone in my office or on company calls sleeveless despite the fact we are a pretty informal, people-person kind of team. So, read the room and make your decision from there.
She was senior enough, with a combative enough personality, to say do as I say, not as I do. She considered herself looking out for me, and while harsh, I appreciated the check.
Many women in my office do (but bring jackets/cardigans with them for meetings). I’m in Florida though for context
I’m in Florida and regularly wear sleeveless tops but I practice construction law so it’s more informal.
Enthusiast
I do (actually im sleeveless right now), BUT my office is freezing. So sweaters are a MUST.
I've never thought of sleeveless as unprofessional and I'm very conservative in my dress standards. Arms aren't comparable to cleavage. 😂
I regularly wear sleeveless tops and dresses. I dont see anything unprofessional about it, unless you are showing too much skin with something strappy. I figure it is the one office wear perk we get as women.
I wear sleeveless. And I wish someone would say something.
I always have a cardigan because I get cold easily, but I wear sleeveless regularly in office and on video calls. I’ve even worn sleeveless in some pretty formal settings when I’ve taken a blazer off. I don’t like wearing sleeves under a blazer.
Although my sleeveless shirts on video calls are very clearly just tank tops, so I wear those strategically 🤣
Yes although i always have a blazer just in case
Depends on the climate whether it’s appropriate. I wear long sleeves year round because it’s more comfortable for me. I would never put a bare armpit into a dry clean only blazer.
Yes
Thanks, all! I guess my wardrobe just opened up.
