Our office has everyone write their own firm bios
Rising Star
When I was in private practice the marketing department wrote it initially, but asked for my input and took any edits I had.
Rising Star
Yes.
Yes. Who else would have the information needed to describe your practice and experience?
At my last firm, our marketing department would send out a quick questionnaire to new hires and then marketing would write your bio based on the responses. Then you had a chance to approve it / make edits.
Always
It varies by firm. I prefer for the marketing team to draft it and run it by me.
I copy and paste and chop up my coworker’s and other firm’s bios to come up with something originally me. 😅
Yes, to be reviewed and approved by a designated partner
I have always written my own bio.
Thought everyone did. Why would you want someone else to write it when your profession literally revolves around writing well?
We write them based on the firms template (I.e. focus of practice, admissions, prior experience, awards, etc)
Yes
I "write" my own, but only after having read a lot of other examples, and marketing often sends a few samples that can be used as templates/guides for what information can/should be included.

Pro
Who else is going to write it? It has to be approved by marketing but they’re not looking hard, have to speak to your own experience, it’s not unlike a resume.
