Have you looked at other positions within the company and other departments? There are quite a few options! I was an M.E. at one point but I can understand it's not for everyone.
I was a manufacturing test engineer for about 6 years. I did like it for a while. Ultimately though, it started to feel like I was doing a lot of the same work all the time. It was also very paperwork / process heavy and I did not have as much freedom to do fun engineering work.
I am what is called a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA). I am responsible for the technical data package (TDP) for the product hardware. It is essentially my job to ensure that the product hardware conforms to the TDP.
I like this role better because I get to do a lot more engineering development work. Things like introducing changes to the product hardware, failure diagnosis of product hardware issues, and introducing new processes to how the product hardware is tested and assembled.
Now I get to do the fun engineering stuff without being bogged down by paperwork and restrictive processes.

I've never been an M.E. but I have had other positions where I felt the same. It took looking and finding the right one to make me happier. And now I make more money too so that's a plus.
I enjoy it
Two sides to your question, do you not like the job due to the work content and lack of interest / simulation, OR do you not like it because it doesn't pay enough to afford a house?
