I don’t. But I have heard that from others. One of the areas where in-house experiences have wide variance.
It’s just your company culture. There is pressure on me in some ways to not rush out, but that just means staying until 5:30pm some days when my boss is here. I’m only in the office twice a week though so most days I have flexibility. That said, I choose to start on time between 8:30 and 9 most days because the optics look better, but no one is forcing me to and there aren’t any repercussions if I start a little later or step out early or leave for an appointment.
I’m required to be in by 8 am everyday… I think it’s uncommon and I find the complete lack of flexibility to be a pain.
Yeah the 8AM start time is the real killer for me. Mostly cause it squeezes my morning gym time.
Yep. My company culture is similar. The best thing about firm life is the flexibility.
Pro
No, I have way, way, way more autonomy.
Way more autonomy. At my previous law firm, the partner whose office was next to mine kept a mental note of whenever I arrived and left the office. In my current position, I can choose whether to come into the office or work from home, whereas my previous law firm already promulgated their RTO policy.
That said, due to the proximity of my current office and my desire to be available to various stakeholders in the company, I choose to start my day in the office between 8:30-9am. No one bats an eye if I show up 15 minutes past 9am or leave early due to prior commitments, which is similar to CC1's experience.
