How exposed are in house counsel to the corporate layoffs that have begun and seem likely to continue? Any specific legal roles more exposed? Or entirely company dependant?

I think this is extremely company dependent. Started my in-house career at a company that had layoffs once a year and lawyers were impacted every time. Now many company has less frequent layoffs and legal has never been impacted

Agree company by company. Our business should have been more susceptible to the pandemic than most (travel related). And we did indeed lose some VPs and other contributors. But we didn’t lose anyone from legal.

I think I’m getting a pretty decent offer but am too scared to accept given the state of the economy. Stay miserable in biglaw or roll the dice on a smaller public company?

My take is that there is still time to make the jump. The public is dooming hard about the economy but the data still shows the job market is hot right now. I think we’re still months away from layoffs so make the jump and impress people at your new job and hopefully you’ll be safe and happier.

I am going to counter but curious what anyone thinks I should ask for. I was thinking 8%.

Have you ever dealt with a colleague that believes in extremely (in my opinion) outdated or even just false claims and treats them as scientific facts? In theory I could see this working situationally, but as a whole philosophy regardless of the patient's issue I think it's ridiculous.

Long time in the making; but we finally sold off from our 50% HWB short. We had two tests at the 3400 level, getting as high as 3420 today before the sell off. Momentum and pessimism over lack of stimulus could take us to the 3107 target quickly, nearly a 10 percent decline over the next month. Stay short my friends. It's going to get bumpy.
