Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Is it difficult landing an in-house position as only a second year corporate associate in big law? I know some people who went in-house straight out of law school and some who had no transactional background but went in-house after just a year of practice. Not having that same luck on my end.

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. General corporate in NY looking to lateral into tech transactions at one of the EC/VC firms. I’ve heard that I may get a class cut if I make the move but I’m ok with that. My worry is that EC/VC firms are crazy busy work differently from general corp, I also won’t have control over my hours, and potentially worse based on how billing differs (block billing on a few clients vs having to work with 15 or more startups). Is the same true for tech trans or IP group?

I’m a 4th year and I’ve never billed contemporaneously for even a one full week. I guess I’d just rather have one day of torture recording all my hours at the end of the month than that extra little torture daily. I’m wondering how common or rare this is in BigLaw. Thoughts?

Should I disclose or hide the fact that I am on maternity leave? I have an interview with a big law firm in NY. I’m currently working for a law firm in Atlanta. I imagine I will be asked whether I have returned to the office or working remotely from NY. My husband and I have been living in New York since the pandemic to be near family. My current firm asked everyone to go back last week but since I am on leave I didn’t have to. I want to avoid lying without jeopardizing my chances.
