McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Yes, we call it BCLP (business confirmed low performer i think)
You get a few months to make improvements and then you are fired
I mean I am sure it has happened but generally no, it’s just a curtesy heads up that you are about to get fired
So I actually got put on a plan at Deloitte my 2nd year. Was just an unfortunate situation with a terrible SM. Got the email documentation and everything.
This project came out of nowhere. I was put on a PIP after some “performance issues” - the whole project was a dumpster fire and I clashed with the SM. Was only a 6-week project.
Next project and every other project was a great performer, off the PIP in 3 or 6 months, promoted that next year, left 2 years after for a better opportunity.
This was in 2018 though.
Usually a kiss of death, but exceptions are possible
I was told there’s no former PIP but was recommended to set up goals and discuss progress towards those goals on a monthly basis.
Yes, BCLP is real but leadership shared there’s no formal performance improvement plan in the area I support.
Chief
Deloitte invented PIP
That’s the kiss of death man
There is nothing more toxic than being labeled a low performer
