Does everyone here put in to take advantage of the match on their 401k? Why/why not?

Of course! Why wouldn't you? It's quite literally free money if you do. I would actually like to hear if anyone thinks different, cause I'm not aware of any drawbacks it could have.

like

People generally don’t like 401ks because of the lack of options and they’re expensive compared to other investment vehicles…but the match almost always more than covers that drawback

like

Yes. Free money and also tax deduction. Seems like a no-brained to me

like

That makes sense! Thanks for sharing :)

Are you willing to work for LESS than your employer is wanting to pay you? If so, don’t contribute.

like

No joke, SA1! Lol sign me up for all the things. I want it all. Hell, I deserve it all!

Got to be in 3 years to be vested !!!!

like

Immediate vesting - any company match is yours from day 1.

Graded vesting - company match becomes yours incrementally. Year 1 = 20%, Year 2 = 40%, etc.

Cliff vesting - must work a predetermined amount of years before company match becomes yours. If you leave before that date then all match is forfeited.

like

8 % is a lot to budget but it’s worth it if you can afford it …

like

It does seem like a lot to budget. Do you find that you're able to swing it?

Always always put in for the match!
