Does it mean anything if HR scheduled you on a client in another state? Does that mean you’re not needed in your home office and they didn’t know what to do with you so they send you out?

Could mean that another office was short on staff and they booked any random available person

like

If they just booked you and didn’t consult you about it, you should politely tell them to get fucked.

like

They just asked me if I had any travel restrictions and I said no.

like

Probably. The BUPICs and their resource management teams talk and when some unexpected work is won, there might be a need to fill in another area. I wouldn’t view it as any sort of negative, especially as busy season comes to a close.

like

Usually it's about about the macro situation, not your personal one. Offices loan staff to each other all the time; sometimes one office has too many/not enough staff or too much/not enough work. Loan staff are just a balancing act.

like

Or you had skills that aligned with what they were looking for

But more realistically there no immediate need for you locally and that state needed extra help. So they send you out and your local office still earns revenue vs you just sitting on the sideline. You can take it either way but my suggestion is that to work your butt of and make a good name for yourself at the client

Oh.. then disregard my post. Thought you were saying this just popped up on your schedule one day.

Does it mean they don’t have any jobs for me in my home office? So they’re shipping me out?

Oh I see. Thanks everyone

I'm an introverted person, like to keep to myself, focus on work, spend the rest of my time on family, gym etc. I've been told that I need to work on my communication and client relationship building skills. any books I can read? I don't follow pop. culture anymore, no longer actively follow team sports (but sporty myself) as I consider it bread and circus for the masses and don't rly enjoy work drinks... Am I doomed? Personally I am happy and love the work but fear for my career progression.

Should I refer my SO to Google?
(Does she have a real shot?)

She's a Project Manager at a global auto parts manufacturer.
Her role is 30% technical, 70% business (meaning she has good problem solving and stakeholder mgmt skills).
5 YOE+Degree at a top engineering school in Europe
My experience at Google made her interested in joining the company, but we never really acted on it.
Could she be a good fit?
If so which areas/orgs?

(Also, are there any rules against it?)

Is there a special title at your company for a Project Manager that works on product development and not an IT project manager?

An example might include launching a new product from conception through form writing, rating, filing, programming, training, and implementation, or the transfer of products from an acquisitions writing company to ours.

I’m currently interviewing with a few top 10 firms and a couple top 100 firms for a mostly remote experienced associate/new senior role. Does anyone have any tips on virtual interviews and how to gauge the culture of the firm and if it really will be a good fit for you? I’m struggling to figure out that out because I used to gauge it on the feeling I got while in their office during interviews. Any suggestions would be helpful :)

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?
