Does my current salary give me leverage to negotiate or is market value the only real metric to go off?

Right now I make more than market averages, but I’m relocating and need to find a new job. I’m worried that using my current salary as leverage is going to make potential employers overlook me for being too expensive…

Anything above zero is expensive if you ask me. My boss knows what I'm asking for and why (what is considered to be a liveable income by MIT), and she's on my side in this thing.

Its far above her with the say so don't understand that.

I'll never understand what justifies the job market numbers other than paying you just enough to breath but not grow.

I wish you the best of luck all the same.

Hmm it’s hard to say - have you started applying for jobs in new areas? Are you getting call backs? It is a employers market right now

I haven’t started applying, but the state requires salary ranges in the job postings, and I’m at the very top if not above all of the ranges I’m seeing and moving to a slightly higher COL area… its a bit discouraging.

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?

Good Afternoon. I have been with my current company for ten months. They quickly realized that I was overqualified for the position I was given. I have been increasingly given more responsibility and even more side projects. I have also been proactive and searching for internal positions that fit my skill set. Can I get suggestions on when would be the opportune time to ask for a raise? Should I wait until my one year anniversary? How should I go about this?

I was hired on with a company at the same time as my male coworker. We work the exact position, different projects.
I asked him flat out what his salary was when he hired on. His salary is at minimum 15% more. He’s never had a raise.
Neither one of us had any experience in this specific position but he didn’t even have experience in the field, which I did.
I requested a performance and salary review because it’s my annual review time anyway. Best way to address this? Also applying elsewhere.

Friendly tip from a former recruiter & HR PM.

Under no circumstances disclose how much you make or what you want to make.

Tell the recruiter,” I need to interview to learn more about the specific details of this opportunity before I’ll know how much I need to accept a potential offer…”

I discuss & other do’s and dont’s on IG.

I'm currently working as a learning specialist/trainer for a large organization for the past 8 years, making a literal over $53,000. The past two years I have been training new employees training courses that last 5 weeks. My department is transitioning to a platform where they want learning specialists to create content and short learning videos to support the business line and I assume eventually replace the training. I wanted to get some feedback on appropriate salary negotiations. Thanks!
