Tell them in advance. They'll work with you.
Tell them up front and ask if you can use your PTO in advance and actúe it later. My old firm let us use up to 40 hours and work them back later.
Chief
Get them to agree before you give notice. Just make sure the agreement on taking the time off is written down in some way (email etc) that you are on vacation from x to y, and how comp will work.
Absolutely agree with managing partner. Tell you new firm up front and they will accommodate your schedule. I have never once seen my firm not work with new hires on things like this
From my experience things you have scheduled in advance are usually ok. Major red flag if they have an issue with it
It’s not a big deal. These things happen all the time. Just let them know in advance and get confirmation in writing, as other people have advised. Congratulations! You have an exciting couple months coming up.
Just tell them ahead of time. Shouldn’t be any kind of a big deal.
It shouldn’t be a big deal as long as you communicate it ahead of time. Personally, I’ve never heard of lawyers having PTO - it’s always been as long as you meet your yearly hours goal/requirement, take time off.
I had two preplanned vacations when I made one of my prior moves. After I received my offer and after negotiating pay, and along with an extended start date, I threw it in as a “oh one more thing” right before accepting. They didn’t have a problem with it at all. Employers don’t care as long as you let them know in advance and they can plan for it. And honestly it might be the best vacay ever bc you’re too new to be staffed on anything important yet, so you should be left completely alone while you’re out

Just tell them and they will work around. They don’t pass on a candidate bc they have to start even a month later
That's a situation that happened to me once. In my case, I just explained to my boss that the vacation had been pre-planned and prepaid; he was fine with that. I think I was paid for the time off.
