McKinsey & Company Ended up striking out at McKinsey & Company final rounds after what I thought was a good interview. The partner said to keep in touch and everyone loved talking to me and would love for me to try again next year. Is this something they all say just to make me feel better or is there an actual opportunity next year? I was ~8 months out of college from a non target

Exactly what K1 said. I do a lot of recruiting and we are expressly not supposed to say “please keep in touch” to people we don’t think could meet the bar in the future. If a partner or a recruiter says this to you, it means we sincerely would like to have you apply again in the future. It’s a sign that the intrinsics were almost where they needed to be (especially if you made it to final rounds). I would definitely encourage you to apply again next year if this is what you heard and you remain interested.

You should also feel free to ask for feedback after your final rounds if it wasn’t offered to you directly. Framing it as how to “exceed the bar” next time will let the recruiter know you want to try again. You can also directly say that the partner asked you to keep in touch and you’re interested in trying again next year, if that’s the case.

Keep in touch is a formal program they run for high caliber candidates that weren’t quite there. Happened to me in Y1 MBA. Decided not to rerecruit but they have an email list + webinars and folks call you when it’s time to apply the next year.

They are so busy right now that they are desperate for talent right now and hiring a ton. If you made it to final rounds, they will def want you to retry. It doesn’t mean you have higher chances though.

If it's anything like Deloitte, if you reapply the only impact your previous experience will have, positive or negative, is in the decision on whether you get a screen call. After that point it will be just like applying for the first time.

Did you get any feedback besides that you did well? Sounds strange.

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.

Seeking advice: I am a young sales consultant and sales engineer working for a tech startup company. I have 6 years of sales experience. And I have been helping run my family business for the past 10 years. I was intially interviewed for a senior account executive position at a $70k offer. Instead they told me I needed more training and hired me as a Junior account executive at a $50k salary + commission. Today is my 6th month mark and I have done very well. And no talks of a promotion / raise..

Hey Bowl,
I work for a late stage(ipo) start up, earlier this year we were acquired & since then they got rid of our yearly bonuses and gave us an ESOP grant.
2 RIFs later we are almost bare bones. Since we are coming up on our usual yearly evaluations many of us assumed (with multiple conversation from our managers) that pay raises and promotions were due.
In a recent All hands we found out that this year there will be no pay raises nor promotions based off merit. Is it time to jump ship?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
