Every time I write a cover letter, I wonder if I’m playing it too safe. I stick to the traditional format—polite intro, bullet points on experience, a formal closing. But with so many applicants, does playing by the rules make me forgettable? I’ve thought about injecting more personality, storytelling, maybe even a bold hook to stand out. But would that be seen as refreshing or unprofessional? Has anyone here taken a more creative approach and actually landed the job? Or is it better to stick to the classic structure and let the resume do the heavy lifting?

Make it simple. Tell your story, but concisely. Don’t use jargons. Keep it short.

I was creating cover letter presentations for each job (just changing some info to fit the job description and company). I don’t think it made a difference in getting interviews because the companies that interviewed me never mentioned the cover letter.

I think it’s more important to be one of the first people to apply to a job. So don’t do anything that will slow you down, like making a crazy cover letter that won’t get read.

This is such a common struggle! A traditional cover letter checks the boxes, but does it actually make you memorable? With hiring managers skimming hundreds of applications, a bold hook or a bit of storytelling could be exactly what sets you apart.

Of course, it depends on the industry—creative fields tend to appreciate personality, while more traditional roles might prefer a classic structure. But even in corporate settings, a well-placed anecdote or a unique opener can grab attention without sacrificing professionalism.

Folks, very new to the EE process. Most recent draw cutoff was 75 points but there are still folks with higher scores in the pool. Does that mean candidates are picked based on time in the pool? A CRS100 could be picked over a CRS300 if the CRS100 has been in longer?

Hi Techies,

I have received an offer from Latoken. Everything is good, just have 2 concern points :

a) The salary will be paid in USDT which when converted will have 30% tax in India per the recent budget guideline.

b) Not coming from the tech background, so I am not sure about the underlying technology Latoken uses and its use case.

Can any tech guy, help me.understand and guide as to how should be my thought process and approach towards this offer ??

What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄). I'm making decorated sugar cookies but kind of drawing a blank when it comes to savory dishes. Bonus points if you have any adult holiday themed games or fun drinks to suggest! It's off school property and there will be a bar (thank god), for context.

I NEED HELP WITH CREDIT SCORE issues: Two months ago my credit score went down by 30 to 40 points due to dad missing credit card payment by a day (i got added to as authorized user on his credit card for me to build credit but now I’m filled with regret). I was devastated by it. This past month I have been making more payments and paid off my aug statement in full thinking it will boost my credit score. But I don’t know why it went down another 10 points. More below:

I'm working on a Fintech startup related to commercial banking pricing. We would like to do some "expert interviews" with current RMs (we would compensate your time.) We want to better understand the friction points when it comes to price C&I or CRE loans. Please DM me if you are interested.

We are not looking for any private information, but more anecdotal evidence of issues that can be improved.
