After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I am set to finish next December because I am going part time while I finish up my time in the military. I get called by the name of the only other person of color of my ethnic group in my practice group. We’re both brown women and certain seniors consistently call me by their name, send them emails directed to me, etc. this happens from multiple people. I’ve corrected subtly in the past but after the 10x time, I can’t. I honestly feel that there is underlying unconscious racism behind it. Any tips on how to address?

I’m 28, working 12-13 hour days and am struggling to date. Pandemic aside, I find that I really don’t have the mental energy to cultivate new relationships with my rare free time on the weekdays and find myself wanting to use the weekends to just rest and catch up with friends. Pros: it’s reasonably impressive. I bootstrapped a company into existence on my free time and it has an impressive list of clients now. Profitable.
