Daaammmmn. All of that law school debt and that's all the more you make than me? Woof.
You mean there were big law jobs out there??? I'm S3 with JD/LLM in mid-market southeast and I make $95k. I feel like I am stuck in my service line - although I want to change - because of my salary.
Were you able to change service lines and how easy was it?
Tell me about it 🙄 but I like my team, the work is interesting, and the benefits and flexibility are significantly better than the big law offers I was considering.
You left $100k (difference between your salary and starting biglaw salary) on the table for flexibility, interesting work and better benefits?
In NYC I started 79 and got bumped to 86 after 6 months at the end of our FY.
@EY2 culture, benefits, and flexibility are a big deal. I'm a woman, and would like to have a family. Other women in law told me to just put up with the crazy associate workload for 3-5 years, then move in-house asap. Sounded like an awful way to spend my 20s. At EY there were multiple sr mgrs and partners with kids, and the culture is supportive, not cutthroat.
Big law in NYC all start at $160k and many have moved to $180k
@EY3 staff 3 or senior 3? I do sometimes worry about getting pigeonholed in this work, but I could also see myself staying long term. Is your LLM related to the service line?
@PWC1 lol at comparing NYC salaries to the Midwest 🙄 COL makes a big difference
For reference, my staff 2 salary is 80k. No idea what to expect moving to senior. Am I already towards the top of the pay band?
@EY2 and are you saying 100k difference as in big law is $180k?? Maybe if we're talking a senior associate in IP. Most biglaw junior associates salaries in this market are around 100-130k.
I'm Senior 3. I'm trying to move service lines ASAP because unbeknownst to me when I was hired almost no one in my group has a tax education or background. It's all about politics. Thinking of moving to a mid-sized law firm. Then to industry

My LLM is in tax and my service line is employment tax which I'm not crazy about.
