A question as old as time. The correct answer is you need to be employed when the bonus hits, the safest answer is to wait until the bonus hits to put your notice in.
That’s the only way to be 100% sure, but technically termination date is your last day.
Just fyi, put in notice after you hit 12 months. You can give notice for 2 weeks but they might terminate you on the day of notice if you’re going to a competitor

Sounds like if you want the bonus badly enough you need to wait until 12 months to put in your notice. Could be leeway but seems like a big risk.

It’s doesn’t matter for sign on bonus if you are going to a competitor or not! If you just stay ( including your notice period) as it states in your contract that you signed you should be good!
Just for additional info my offer states:
- in the event you terminate your employment with EY or EY terminate your employment for cause within 12 months of the anniversary of the date you commence work, the entire amount has to be repaid
- at the conclusion of 12 months anniversary of the date you actually commence work for EY.... Obligation to repay the bonus shall be extinguished.
What does terminate mean in this context?
just out of curiosity, how many weeks or months in at EY did you receive the sign on bonus?
Believe it was the second or third paycheck
